Doll House Kits Update

Recently, I (Joe Spaulding, an employee at Crafty Capers) put together one of the many doll houses that we have available for sale. Whenever I thought of someone building a doll house, I always thought of this huge long process that took hours on end. I could just imagine billions of tiny pieces of intricate parts that I had to some how manage to put together without completely ruining the thing.

Surprisingly, the doll house I put together only took about 25 minutes all together. After taking it out of the box, I realized how easy of a job it would be. I just put a few walls up, secured them with dowel rods and secured it all together with a small amount of glue, and it was done! So, if you're a parent of a little one, don't be intimidated by doll house kits. They're easy and they're fun! The doll house I completed is shown above.

So come in to Crafty Capers and get your doll house for the little ones, or yourself, today!

Elizabeth

Hello Everyone! My name is Elizabeth and I'm new to Crafty Capers. I am so excited to be working here in this fabulous store. I'm the oldest of four, home schooled, and I take ballet. I'm also a spinner and I knit some too. I've been on a spinning team with Lisa (who works at Crafty Capers as well) for about five years and found out about the store from her. I learned to knit and spin at Conner Prairie when I was a youth interpreter and fell in love with it. I received my own wheel from my grandma a few years ago and am now saving up for a loom. I think that knitting, spinning, and weaving are really relaxing and fun to do and would like to encourage people to get involved. Come over to Crafty Capers or Stitches and Scones and we would be glad to help get you started!

A Bittersweet Farewell

This has really been a fun experience that was way too short-lived. It was just a week or so ago that I introduced myself to everyone. Now, here I am bidding you farewell. Life has a funny way of turning upside down sometimes, especially when you are just getting very comfortable. When I hired on with Molli and the staff, my husband and I were suspicious that things might change, but it all changed much quicker than we ever expected. We were blessed by a VERY quick sale of our home, which was only 6 months old! Now, we are in the process of packing and preparing to move yet again, consolidating two houses full of "stuff" into one and simplifying our lives. It has been wonderful having the opportunity to help launch such a fun business as Crafty Capers. Everyone must come in to check out everything we have in store for Hamilton County youth. I can only imagine stopping back in sometime this summer to find the store bursting at the seams with customers and classes. I wish Molli and the entire staff the best of success. I will miss you! Claire

Brianna

Hey everyone, my name is Brianna. I am looking forward to working at Crafty Capers, and seeing all the new people interested in knitting. My mother taught me to knit when I was eight years old as well as spinning, and I have loved it ever since. Many of my eleven siblings know how to knit, and it is fun to see the progress they make. I currently work Saturdays, and I look forward to seeing you at the store.

Hello from Joe!

Hello from me, Joe! Let me introduce myself to you! I am a sophomore at Westfield High School, just like Mason who is also a semi-new employee here! You can read about him down below. I'm very new to knitting, though I was introduced to crocheting at a young age. I've always been an artsy kind of guy. I'm into Photoshop and other types of photography. Knitting, however, is very new to me and has been somewhat challenging. But, that's the fun of learning a new skill!

Crafty Capers has been so much fun to work on! We're all really excited to get it open and ready for business! I think having Crafty Capers will be a great thing for youth who are already into knitting as well as to expose the awesome craft to new people of all ages!

Please, don't be a stranger here at Stitches 'n Scones as well as Crafty Capers! Come see me as well as the rest of the staff any time! Like I said, I'm not all that good at knitting, but I am working on it! If I can't answer a question, guaranteed, there will be a person here who can. See you soon!

Welcome to Crafty Capers!

Hello,

I'm Cait, and I have been working at Stitches and Scones for 3 years. I am VERY excited about the grand opening of Crafty Capers next door. Crafty Capers is unique in that it is the only fiber arts store for youth in the country! Complete with trendy yarns, colorful puppets, historic toys, cute books, fiber art kits, fun accessories, AND tasty popcorn(trust me it is gooood), Crafty Capers is a fun place to hang out and learn different crafts! You can also host parties at Crafty Capers.

I am a 17 year old home schooled junior from Sheridan, and I would love for you to come meet me and check out the store! :)

Anne

"Hi" from Anne to all of my new friends! We will have a fun time when you visit Crafty Capers, a new store that gives you a "rainbow" experience the minute you step inside! I am writing this as I sit looking around at the wonderful yarns, books, bags, puppets, and fiber projects and I am wearing my new sweatshirt with the Crafty Capers logo on the front! I have never, ever been in such a colorful shop and I am so happy to get to work here (although I must admit it feels like fun, not work!). May I introduce myself? I was an art teacher for a very long time, and I loved every minute of those teaching years. I taught wonderful kids from kindergarten through 8th grade in both Northwestern and Pike schools. What kinds of art did I teach? Well, if it had to do with painting, drawing, printing, weaving, sculpting, ceramics, art appreciation, art history, collage, stitching, airbrushing, muraling or printmaking, I probably taught it somewhere along the line! I love drama, also, and directed many plays and musicals for the schools, and, in my younger days was active in Kokomo Civic Theatre where I was in 5 musicals. My favorite roles were as Lily St. Regis in "Annie" and as Ethel Toffelmeier in "The Music Man". I have lived in Westfield for 7 years, along with my husband, Craig, my 2 children, my three dogs and my cat. What a lot of pets! I have always loved animals and I hope you will tell me about your pets when I meet you. Other interests of mine are knitting, sewing, reading, cleaning my house (just kidding!) ,talking and laughing!! I love my family and I come from a really big one! I love spending summers in the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York where we have a family lake that was purchased by my great grandfather in 1929! I spent lots of wonderful summers there as a child and I miss being there. Well, that's alot about me, and I hope to get to meet you soon! Come in for some project ideas, a class, a party or just to say "howdy!" See you soon!

Mason

Hey everyone my name's Mason Smith. I've only been at Stitches and Scones for a little over two months going on my third. I'm a sophomore at Westfield High School down the street. I enjoy doing many kinds of arts, I'm new to the fiber scene, but I'm starting to enjoy it very much. You can catch me over at Crafty Capers now, our new store that just opened next door to Stitches and Scones, on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 2:30 to 5. Crafty Capers is an awesome store for the fiber youths.

Claire looks forward to meeting everyone soon!

Greetings from Crafty Capers! We are very excited to be open for business. We can't wait for all of you to venture in to see this exciting and fun shop. Has the cold and snow kept you inside way too much this winter? Well, it's time to break out your scarf and mittens and make a visit to downtown Westfield to check us out! Located right next door to Stitches & Scones, there is parking behind the shop, just turn down the alley between the two buildings. You will find the most colorful, cheery atmosphere you can imagine. A lot of love and thought has gone into the efforts with this new location. Our young people will never appreciate or value the skills of generations past without learning from our generation. We now have Molli and her talented staff to thank for allowing us to carry on these traditions with the next generations. Crafty Capers is stocked with yummy yarns for all sorts of projects, as well as kits for children and teens to complete many projects like weaving, knitting, crocheting, cross stitch and quilting. You must come in to play with the vast assortment of Folkmanis Puppets. From finger puppets to almost life-size puppets, they are definitely designed for all ages, especially the young at heart. Books and vintage toys round out the selection to choose from as we get started. Come in on Monday or Tuesdays so we can get the opportunity to meet. An avid fan of Stitches and Scones, I am thrilled to be working for Molli here at Crafty Capers. I have been knitting, sewing, needlepointing and cross stitching since childhood. I even have my potholder loom from childhood to pass on to my grand daughters soon. It is very heartwarming to watch my daughters as they love the fiber arts and are carrying on the tradition of hand-made gifts. I look forward to teaching my grand children all of these skills too. Crafty Capers will enable all parents and grandparents to involve the young people in their lives to follow in their footsteps. I even envision a talented teen or tween sitting down to teach their mother the fun of knitting or crocheting. The love of fiber arts is definitely contagious, not to mention relaxing. Just ask any one here at Stitches & Scones or Crafty Capers. I'll be watching for you, so stop on by! Claire

Location for Crafty Capers on North Union Street

Our building was built in the 1850's, and the original wood floors help make it cozy. The bright colored walls and retro furniture are a fun mix. We are moving inventory into the place, and trying to finish the renovation downstairs. We are getting very close to opening. The address is 116 North Union in downtown Westfield. It is south of Stitches & Scones across the alley. Thanks to all the staff, especially the teens for helping with the set-up. My husband, Russell, is the landlord, renovator, and all around good support for our new endeavor. We will let you know when we are open and will invite you to the grand opening party. Keep checking our website and blog.
